I love me my fandoms.

So I grew up as the daughter of a Trekkie, and eventually became a fan of my own show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and in turn, all of Joss Whedon's works--Angel, Firefly/Serenity, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (Purple Pimp, heehee). And lately that has turned into Dollhouse.

I love Dollhouse for two reasons:

1. It's Joss Whedon (and the premise of it is intriguing to me as a writer)
2. 2nd season is "all the actors of Battlestar Galactica decide to make a guest appearance", and Tahmoh Penikett is a regular. Helo was always my BSG favorite.

What makes Dollhouse even better than a Joss Whedon/BSG squee? Bringing in the Trekkie-ness!

Jonathan Frankes (Riker) will be directing the next episode of Dollhouse. He directed First Contact, and of the TNG movies, that is probably my favorite.

If only Friday would be here sooner...

Ode to Redshirt

Oh poor Redshirt, the security officer we knew so little, who died in order to prove just how fatal this mission to the plant's surface could be for our heroes despite the fact that they are the heroes and the audience subconsciously knows they are NOT allowed to die, at least not until the end of the season or perhaps the series finale.

Redshirt you will be missed. McCoy should have after years of kneeling next to a man, a hand on his throat, declaring, "He's dead, Jim.", noticed that there was in fact a trend, and it was the color of his shirt.

But seriously, if about one red shirt died per episode, think about the mortality rate on the Enterprise alone. Isn't that a statistic they publish? Why would any one willing join it's crew knowing that statistic? And how is it even possible for the ship to keep running when their crew was depleted so quickly?

If you have no idea who I am talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_(character)

My mom has been kind and has decided to buy me one of the Starfleet shirts from the back of the cereal box. Seriously, the check is already written. And now I am torn between the gold captain's tee (which feels a bit presumptuous of me), the blue science and medical personnel shirt, or the red shirt (simply as an ode to Redshirt).

No I haven't seen the movie yet. I've been too busy this week going through all my childhood possessions and trashing 10 black garbage bags full and donating the same amount is hard work. Not to mention going to my little sister's graduation Friday and babysitting for her last night. Aiden and I had a marvelous time. He slept for an hour and I read a book. For it being my first time babysitting an actual baby/changing diapers/feeding him bottles, I think it went splendidly. I love my 5 month old nephew!!!!

Progress

i is making it.

Ok, so until this week I hadn't worked on my senior seminar paper at all since having completed the presentation. What I found out was that the presentation is my paper. I did so much work for the presentation that I am not doing as much as I thought I would when it came to paper time.

See last weekend or so, I took all of my slides from my powerpoint presentation and wrote them all in a word document in outline form, which was good. It got me 3 pages of outline. I thought that was awesome. Then in the middle of the week. I started going back in an adding in subpoints all the information from my note cars. By note card 6, I got my outline up to 4 1/2 pages long, and I have 23 note cards. So today I sat down and wrote in all of the other note cards, the things I said during the presentation, and the things I forgot to say, and there were a few paragraphs worth of information for some bullet points, which was awesome because now my single spaced outline is 13 pages long.

If I remove the bullet points and change the single spacing to double as is required for the paper, it is 21 pages long, and by the time I go in, take out all the titles and add my introduction, clean up my conclusion, and all the transitional bits between the different points, I am pretty sure I am going to have my 25 pages. And all of it came out of my head!!!! Which was pretty freaking awesome.

Now here is my biggest problem: citation.

oh damn....

Reasons Why You May Not See Me Much Starting This Friday:

1. BSG!
2. Exec Board Plotting night, a.k.a. getting things set up for new exec board
3. SGA "info" session night Monday, followed by class and meetings.
2. My Marketing prof is making us watch a video of a person being euthanized (sp?)
3. Wednesday will be spent studying my ass off in prep for Thursday
4. 15 minute talk about the euthanized man followed by our first Marketing Exam on Thursday
5. Which is directly followed by two hours of work and my Money and Banking Midterm
6. Writing and revising resumes with cover letters and the works with Career Services so that I can seek a Job during Spring Break so I won't be poor this summer.
7. Packing for Spring Break next Friday
8. Searching for a job all of Spring Break.

UPDATE: Add "Write a paper for my banking class before Tuesday" and "Road Trip this Weekend" in there. Sorry this is mostly so I don't forget to do anything.

So if you don't see me much, this is the reason why. So don't fret, I am not dead, but it looks like I shall be very very busy....

Just for fun

Senior Sem -- Hip Hip Hurray!

"II. Literature (or other art forms) as mythology

• New media, such as cinema or video/computer games, in which mythic inheritances are displaced into invented worlds inhabited by antagonists who are irreconcilable to one another—hence a mythical logic of eternal and unremitting struggle accompanied by an ideology of annihilation, and the deeply conservative pessimism this entails."

From our Senior Sem paper assignment. Star Wars here I come. While I am not sure about anything past "in which myth", I am sure I can convince him of my idea.

I will probably though go for a religion in Star Wars (Force), it's origins (Christianity, Buddhism), and it's influences (Censuses for Australia, England, Wales, Scotland, and Canada) as well as using this to be able to actually use a wiki as a reference in a Scholarly paper (wookiepedia) and to re-watch all the Star Wars movies in order and actually be doing research. Huzzah!

And Lierin, I demand that you come to our senior sen and write about Oblivion. Please?

i can has time lord?
So today was my last normal shift of the semester at the Crescent. I am working again tomorrow to pick up the last of my hours but an odd thing happened.

The Crescent is half lit, and I am tapping shut the second to the last box, and Tracy is about to start detailing what we will do next as we are the only two people down there, and this girl walks in and asks, "Is this where we pick up the yearbook?"

Tracy and I look at all the boxes towering over us and look back at her and try not to laugh. Tracy told the girl she could pick one up next semester, and she came back with I'll be at Harlaxton. *facepalm* we have no idea which box they could be in, let alone are not doing to unpack to find them. We told her to come back to the new place next week after we started unpacking.

Silly people.

Then Tracy and I took a few things over to the new place on our own, plants and such, and she detailed what I would be doing tomorrow because I am one of the only two work studies working tomorrow. So I have to call her to find out when I work. It will be weird going to a new location to work. It looks all weird.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AIDEN MY NEPHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is born!

1:16 a.m. 8 pounds 8 oz. 21 inches. Dark blue eyes like violet. They will probably be brown.

in other news, I am freaking still stressed. Ann got to like 5-6 cm and then stayed like that for a few hours then the Doc said C-section. But she will still be out for another half hour.

GAH<<

I have a law paper due tomorrow, a paper which is not happening. Too focused on other things.

PS: Thanks for the comments on the last post. A lot of the worry is gone. Now I just gots to wait for Ann to wake up and be oks then things will be fine. Wow? Am I really this tired? It's not even 1 in the morning. Shame. My insomniac days are long gone...

OMG OBAMA

i can has time lord?
Sent that text to a bunch of people last night.

I also want to say, I am proud of America (Good Job!), because that is history and we got to watch it.

North Carolina is obviously conflicted because it came out dead even. And most states were very close, only a few percent off in most cases. Ok, I checked it, Obama got slightly more votes in that state, so I don't know why they haven't given it to him.

Also in the lines of history, the two states that I consider home states, Florida and Indiana, the ones that have always, always, always gone red, have in fact impressed myself and other because for the first time in a very long time, both states went BLUE!

OMG AMERICA! INDIANA IS BLUE! FLORIDA IS BLUE!

And let me just say, every time he said "Yes We Can" I was totally thinking "So Say we All". Because while the human race wasn't just decimated by Cylons, but we have been decimated by economy and things in general, and you have to get people cheering and hopeful again, and I think he did that with "Yes We Can."

Very nice. Very nice.

On a last note: Fifth of November? If I had been thinking we would have bought fireworks to shoot off at midnight. Silly me. I still have this need for fire or something similar.
